LAUNCESTON’S PRIDE

Well here we are the time has come,

Lets seize this opportunity there’s a championship to be won

It’s been done once before as we all know,

But it’s our time now to put on the show

On Saturday it’s time, our new journey will begin,

Let’s play for each other so that the Torns get the win.

No stone stays unturned, we’ve earned this right,

This team sticks together 40 minutes of fight;

The result will take care of itself and at the end of the day,

As I know in my heart you will all come to play.

We will give it our all, that’s all we can do,

But we must stick together, Tornadoes through and through.

For this talented group it’s a one of time,

To waste this moment would be a terrible crime.

We are a team to be reckoned with I’m sure you’d agree,

With Mac, Marj and Brookey all bombing the 3’s.

We’ve got Crista, Albs and Pete who work hard each night,

Then there’s Sars, Zo and Riley who come in and continue the fight.

There’s Jessie as well who can also smack a 3,

If only it wasn’t for that bloody knee.

Keely you’re with us for every game,

Without you support it wouldn’t be the same.

Then there’s the Staff, Tim, Lizzie and Jess,

Without all your efforts we’d be in a mess.

Lizzie’s on the towels, Jess is in support,

And Tim leads the way, directs us on the court.

Then there’s me, I’ve always got your back,

I’ll keep us together and on the right track

I’m so proud of you all, it’s been a great ride,

Let’s go all the way, show Launceston your pride.

2008 ALL SEABL WOMEN TEAM

For the first time in a number of years no limit on the number of restricted players was enforced, meaning the best five players in the league have been rewarded with a position on the All SEABL Women Team. GABRIELLE RICHARDS (Bendigo) and NAT HURST (Launceston) receive their second consecutive selection, and Nunawading Spectres JENNA O’HEA and Ballarat Lady Miners MICHELLE MUSSELWHITE are rewarded for consistent seasons and joined by first time recipient KRISTEN VEAL (NW Tasmania).

Having received 17 out of a possible 18 votes, JENNA O’HEA was the leading vote getter for the All SEABL Team after a consistent season which saw her guide the Nunawading Spectres to a league best 20-4 record.

O’Hea averaged 18.6 points and 8.3 rebounds as well as recording 3.8 assists and 1.4 steals this season and will be playing in her first SEABL Grand Final this weekend. This is Jenna’s second All SEABL team selection, having received her first recognition for the 2006 season.

NAT HURST receives the guard position for the second consecutive year despite changing teams in the off-season. Nat was instrumental in the Tornadoes outstanding improvement this season, averaging 21.3pts, 6.3rebs and a league leading 6.5 assists. Hurst received Player of the Week recognition three times during the early part of the season and was the leagues dominant player. Her performance dropped in the later stages of the season and after leading the league in scoring for the majority of the season, lost the title with only two weeks to play.

Returning to the league after many seasons in the WNBL, Ballarat Lady Miners MICHELLE MUSSELWHITE had a standout season and is rewarded with her second All SEABL Team Selection. Michelle finished the season ranked first in scoring (22.8ppg), ninth in rebounds (9.6rpg) and third in steals (2.1spg). Despite a slow start to the season, Musselwhite received Player of the Month recognition in May and June, and scored a league best 43pts against Launceston in round 19 to take over as the leagues best scorer.

Having missed out on a position last year by count back, KRISTEN VEAL once again led the NW Tasmania Lady Thunder superbly and has been rewarded for her efforts. Veal led the league in minutes played with 39 and was the major contributor for her team on a consistent basis. Veal averaged 20.4points, 10.6rebounds, 4.3assists and 1.8steals for the year.

The final position on the All SEABL team is awarded to Bendigo Lady Braves GABRIELLE RICHARDS for the second consecutive season. Earning Player of the Month recognition in March and April, Richards averaged 18.3pts, 11.1rebs (4th), 2.4ass, and 1.4blks and has been one of the standout front court players
